Imagine if ALL the Christians in your city or town have come together to be Jesus' Church, having one heart and one mind, with Jesus as the Head, and with the common objective of seeing the city won to Christ.
Imagine if they were all ONE transformed Body with no denominational tags whatsoever.
Imagine if the “penny dropped” and we got it! That we are the literal Body of Christ, and that He is here on earth now, in us, not off in a distant galaxy somewhere called heaven.
Imagine if ALL the Christians in our cities carried out Jesus’ commandment to love one another, without prejudice or judgment.
Imagine if the whole Church came together to worship the Lord on a regular basis in one place. Imagine the effect it would have on the rest of the community, if in a medium size city, if 100,000 Christians or more were meeting at a large arena to worship God and to share in sweet communion (fellowship) every month. In large cities it could be more than 500,000 or even a million coming together! Do you think the media would take notice of this size group meeting together? The whole city would start to notice when all the Christians came together in a demonstration of loving relationship!
Imagine the effect it would have on your relatives, neighbors and friends when you invited them to come and join you in such a large gathering of united, loving Christians, from all walks of life.
Imagine if Jesus' Church (all God’s people in an area) combined their resources together, to feed, clothe, and assist the poor and needy so that the Church became known as THE source of true care and provision. Because He told us that to the degree we feed, clothe, and visit, we are doing it to Him - literally! Read Matthew 25:31-46. Notice the difference between the two groups in the parable was in what they DID.
Imagine what it will be like when there a “home fellowships” in every city and suburb, town or village where people come together for a meal (communion) to share fellowship, share one another’s burdens, pray for one another, and to freely love and care for each and every person.
Imagine if there was a home fellowship in every street in your city?
Imagine if all the previously denominational and independent “churches” made a decision to drop their denominational or ministry name and referred to themselves Jesus' Church - Los Angeles, or Jesus' Church- London, or Jesus' Church - Johannesburg, or Jesus' Church - Surrey, or Jesus' Church - Sydney, or Jesus' Church - Glasgow, or whatever the name is of the town or city where they are located?
(By the way, I'm NOT suggesting "Jesus' Church" be a registered name, just Who we are.)
Imagine if all the Christians held an evangelistic outreach - together.
Imagine if Jesus' Church came together from different backgrounds to pray and intercede for their community every day?
Imagine what could happen if Christians committed themselves to extraordinary prayer by coming together to develop 24 hour continuous prayer, intercession and worship teams to pray and worship in relays round the clock, day in, and day out?
Imagine what could happen if the Body of Christ ‘prayer-walked’ EVERY street in your city on a regular basis!
Imagine if whole communities including schools, universities, government departments, mayor’s offices, police and hospitals were targeted for extraordinary prayer.
Imagine the difference it would make if EVERY Christian understood that they were a minister (not just the ordained and trained clergy) for God, and that everywhere they went, whether it be to school, work, sports, clubs... that they prayed by name, for everyone they came in contact with, EVERY day.
Imagine how the city fathers would sit up and take notice, if, corresponding to the above, there was a marked drop in crime in your area as has happened in several places around the world when Christians have prayed and worked together.
What an ideal to aim for!
Stop for a moment now and let the scene unfold in your mind. Can you imagine it in your location? Impossible you say? Not if it’s God will, and, the people are willing to cooperate with Him to see His will done!
In the first chapter of the book of the prophet Habakkuk, we read of Habakkuk’s despair over the conditions of his day. "...For plundering and violence are before me; there is strife, and contention arises. Therefore the law is powerless, and justice never goes forth....” Sounds a lot like our day doesn’t it! Have you ever felt like Habakkuk? I know I have. Now listen to God’s response in verse 5. “Look among the nations and watch - be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you.”
In Ephesians chapter 3, the Apostle Paul tells us, “Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that works in us...” In these verses it seems as if God is asking us to imagine as big as we can, and yet what He is saying, is that He plans to do far greater than anything we can imagine!
He IS able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or think. He can take chaos and turn it into this beautiful planet. And He can take sinners like you and me with no hope and turn us into “sons of God.”
Jesus said He will build His Church and the gates of hell will not be able to prevail against it. His intention is we be a victorious, powerful, Church doing the miracles He did and even greater, overcoming all the works of the enemy. (John 14:12)
Listen to what God says to the skeptics and faithless. “Behold you despisers, marvel and perish, for I work a work in your days, a work which you will by no means believe, though one were to declare it to you.” (Acts 13:41)
In Isaiah He says, “Do not remember the former things nor consider the things of old. Behold I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth, shall you not know it?” I believe God wants us to lift our sights from our small, stunted, self-centered plans, to the amazing new thing He is about to do. God’s attention in these last days is on His Church and the glorious new thing He is bringing forth through her, in the earth. He is looking now for our faith filled cooperation, to help bring it to pass. (Isaiah 43: 18-19)
“Fear not” says the Lord in Isaiah 43: 5-6, “I am with you. I will bring your descendants from the east, and gather you from the west, I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south ‘Do not keep them back!’ Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth ---”
How much do we limit God with our small, unbelieving thinking! Why aren’t we praying for the people in our cities and communities to come in huge numbers to God and make Jesus their Lord? Why not believe God for WHOLE cities and WHOLE nations to come and be saved?
Why not indeed?
Here in the city where we live, Perth, Western Australia, we are asking the Lord for 1.5 million people to become Christians out of a State population of around 2+ million. Some of you will think we are asking for too many. How many is too many? Why not ask for most of the people to become Christians? Our God is able!
Imagine the impact it would make on the state, the country, and other nations, if this many people were born again, Spirit filled, ministers of the Gospel.
Just some of the benefits would be a dramatic reduction in the crime rate. The de-escalation of home invasions, violence, rape, murder, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, theft, assaults, child abuse, spouse abuse, divorce, family breakdown, corruption, lying, abortion, prostitution, euthanasia, and so on. Our police force would be largely un-employed, our prison system scaled down, instead of being one of the fastest growing industries in the country. Hallelujah!
Imagine the joy of being able to airlift food, clothing, medicine and other necessities to famine-ravished nations.
Imagine that Jesus' Church has such resources available that in a city with a million+ Christians, they were able to charter several Jumbo jets for the purpose of quickly dispensing aid and personnel when needed to their own nation, but also to other nations, in times of crisis and need.
Imagine the savings for the Government with the downsizing (and in some cases elimination) of the various Government sponsored departments and programs to help the victims of crime.
Imagine the change in the spiritual atmosphere in a city when God’s people get out on the streets (like Jesus did) lifting up and praying for the down and out, the “street people,” the partying, overdrinking young people who are searching for a “good time” and the homeless. Jesus going wherever we go, bringing Light and Life.
Imagine the savings of millions and millions of dollars and the boost to the economy. Besides the fact that the large number of Christians (1.5 million people in Western Australia, pick a number for your city and state), are on their way to glory.
Imagine a transformed united Church who have come together, made up of people who have laid down their lives to Christ by being committed to decreasing, so that Jesus can increase.
Imagine a Body made up of ordinary people who have learned how to see and hear clearly, and have overcome the enemy! Proverbs 29:18; Ezekiel 12:2; Matthew 11:15, 13:9; 13:43; Mark 4:9; 7:16; Luke 8:8; 14:35; Ephesians 4:18; Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13,22; 13:9
Imagine the incredible transformation to our society, as well as in other nations, as many thousands go out to share and demonstrate their faith. Can you imagine that?
What about your town, city, state and nation - can you imagine and believe God for a similar result?
You may be thinking that I’m idealistic and very presumptuous to be talking this way.
Let’s me ask you this question.
Is it God’s will for people to be saved? Hasn’t He said that He is not willing that any should perish? How can it be presumption if it is God’s will? And, isn't it God’s will for His people to be ONE?
Religious attitudes and mindsets were opposed to Jesus when He was on earth, and today the same spirit is prevalent. There are still those enemies of the cross of Jesus Christ, who are trying to kill what God wants to bring forth. But they will fail just as they did in Jesus’ day. This final creative act of God will be His ultimate masterpiece - a glorious, perfect, spotless bride for His Son.
Let’s check our hearts and not limit God by continually trying to bring Him down to our low level. It’s time to take drastic steps and do whatever is necessary to see our respective nations won to Christ.
Let’s make a firm, determined decision now, to co-operate with the Father, to see His will done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Will you stop reading now and make this commitment? Say out loud,
“Father, I will to will the will of God. I pray for Your Kingdom to come and Your will to be done in my life, city, and nation, and throughout the earth, as it is in heaven. I lay my life down before you, for You to use, as You will. In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen!”
